How do I show that I have been certified?

There are four ways to validate your professional certification when you pass the certification exam:

  1. You’ll receive a certificate to display in your office or work area.
  2. You’ll receive branding elements, such as the certification icon, and instructions on how to include “bCRE” in your email signature and on business cards; for example: Sally Schultz, bCRE.
  3. You’ll receive a certification badge to use online and in social media.
  4. If you’re seeking a new employment opportunity, hiring managers can verify your certification level by emailing certification@blackbaud.com.

How can I verify that I have been certified?

The bCRE verification is a new service that will be available to certified professionals to aid in career pursuits. Currently, anyone looking to validate a Blackbaud Certified user can email certification@blackbaud.com. We are working on developing an online registry, which will be coming soon.

How does the program work?

bCRE offers professionals three levels of certification: Associate, Professional, and Master. This is a progressive program, in which knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge builds with each level. All professionals must pass the Associate level before moving on to the Professional level, and they must pass the Professional level before moving on to the Master level.

How long will it take to get my certification?

This depends on how well you already know the information in the exam prep guides. The prep guides will identify areas covered in the exam, provide sample study questions, and suggest training paths to boost your knowledge in key areas.

After a careful review of the prep guides, if you feel you have a good understanding of the competencies covered on the exam, we encourage you to register to take the test.

What do I need to score on the exam to become Blackbaud Certified in The Raiser's Edge?

A score of 80% correct or higher is necessary in order to pass each exam and become Blackbaud Certified.

What happens if I don’t pass the exam?

You can take the exam one more time at no additional charge after a waiting period of 15 days. You can also look at the areas in which you need more study and take a few refresher courses to help you pass when you retest.

Are there time limits on the exams?

Yes. The time limits are as follows:

Associate exam: 2 ½ hours (150 minutes)
Professional exam: TBD
Master exam: TBD

Can I access The Raiser’s Edge during the exam?

You may have The Raiser’s Edge open to reference as you answer the questions on the exam. However, it is important to keep in mind that you will not have enough time to look up every answer, so try not to rely too much on the program.

For a multiple choice question that potentially has multiple correct responses, how are those graded? Can I receive partial credit?

For this type of question, all correct responses and only correct responses must be checked in order to receive credit for a correct answer. There is no partial credit on these questions.

If I fail an exam, will I find out what I got wrong?

While you won’t find out which specific answers you marked were incorrect, you will be able to see a summary by category. To find it, go to your transcript and click on the title of the certification exam. Scroll down to see your scores by section.

Top

How long do I have to wait after being certified at one level to attempt the next?

There is a 24-hour waiting period before you can purchase and attempt the next level of Blackbaud Certification.

Top

Will I need to go to a testing center to complete the exam?

No. You can take the exam from any computer with an Internet connection.

Top

Are there separate versions of the exam for different regional versions of The Raiser’s Edge?

Yes. Currently, the U.S., Canadian, European and Asia Pacific versions are available.

Top

How long are the exams available before they expire?

Once you purchase an exam and add it to your Training Central transcript, you will have 90 days to complete the exam before it expires and must be purchased again.

Top

How long will my certification last?

bCRE is valid for three years. At the end of this time period, you may take an exam to recertify. Or you may elect, at any time, to certify at a higher level. If you do achieve bCRE at a higher level, the three-year clock will start over at that time.

Top

What happens if my bCRE expires?

In order to recertify, you will need to take and pass the test with a score of 80% correct or higher. If you recertify before your certification expires, you will be able to recertify at the same level. If your certification expires, you will be required to start back at the Associate level.

Top

What happens if I change jobs? Will my Blackbaud Certification transfer with me?

Of course. All you have to do is email certification@blackbaud.com and provide the name and Site ID of your new organisation. We’ll take it from there.

Top

How much do prep guides cost?

The prep guides are totally free!

Will there be Blackbaud Certification for other products?
